So you’ve heard us talk about dental implants over and over. What makes this article any different? Well if you live in San Antonio,, you know that we have been serving the community here for over 30 years! And we have loved every minute of it! In that time, dentIstry in general has evolved many times over. I have seen the technology of our tools change as fast as technology changes, every time we turn around there is something new to improve our patients lives. Something that make a procedure less invasive, or provides a quicker healing time. We as dentists are quick to adjust because at the end of the day, you, our patients are what matters.
Because technology moves so fast, the materials that we work with change as well. This also changes the level of skill required to perform certain procedures. Dental implants have really taken on a life of their own since they were invented long ago. When dental implants were first invented, they were made of wood. Can you believe it! Can you imagine having a piece of wood, as a tooth in your mouth today? We are lucky that dental implants today are made out of porcelain and titanium, materials that last a lot longer than wood!
Once you come in for your consult, you will see a variety of tools in our office, all there because we know that our clients deserve nothing but the best care that we can possibly provide. It’s why our team at Orsatti Dental continuously goes to conventions. We pride ourselves on keeping up with the latest technology and procedures. All in an effort to provide you with the best care. Ok, back to the implants.
Getting dental implants now is far less invasive than it used to be. Ideally, what we would do is schedule your consult for dental implants. Then we would lay out every single option, for you. The options could range from and All-On-4 procedure, to just one, or maybe two extractions then implants. The great thing about the implants is that they are just like your teeth so whether you need one, two or a full row…we can help. Of all the options, we can help you pick the right one for you.
Most people today take their dental health for granted. We are so used to thinking that we are going to be fit and healthy forever, that sometimes we forget to take care of and maintain the things that make us strong. Dental health is just as important as physical health, yet most people truthfully only brush ONE time a day. As a dentist in San Antonio, that’s a little hard to believe, but it happens. We know all the tricks. We know that patients sometimes floss for the two weeks leading up to their appointment, and do everything they can to minimize warning signs before their examination. But truth be told, we know. We can always tell how much a patient flosses and brushes when we examine them.
As dental implants become more and more commonplace, patients don’t necessarily have to wait long periods of time to have the procedure and get a brand new smile. The most waiting that may happen will be the time from when we measure your teeth to the time of the procedure. Depending on the number of dental implants we are doing, it could take up to a week before the procedure.
Since everyone heals differently, generally the most important part of the procedure is the recovery. We always have to put each patient on a soft food diet for two to three weeks. This is always the hardest part of the procedure for some patients. Mostly because they aren’t able to eat the foods that they normally would. I guess on the plus side, we do have a lot of patients who end up losing a few pounds during the healing process. We like to see our patients once a week during this process to ensure everything is healing normally. Then after we are in the clear, clear of swelling and infection, we release the patient with their new teeth and new smile to share with the world.
I have to tell you, seeing someone’s complete disposition change right in front of your eyes is why I love what we do at Orsatti Dental. When you’re looking for information about dental procedures you are trying to get all the information that you can about that procedure. For example, as it pertains to dental implants, you’d want to know how long it takes, all the steps of the procedure and just as important, how much it costs. But you rarely read about what it is like on the other side. For the doctor. I have to say, each time you see a patient and their new smile, it reminds me of why I love doing this. Seeing people regain confidence that they once had and possibly lost long ago. Watching our patients walk with a little more confidence and being more sure of themselves in most everything they do is why I love what we do. As I’ve mentioned before, I, along with my fellow doctors really do enjoy taking care of people. We enjoy seeing our patients journey and moreover, we enjoy helping people. So no matter how we do that, it’s at our core as humans to help one another and we love what we do. So we can’t wait to see you in our office for your next dental appointment. No matter whether it’s for a routine cleaning, Invisalign, sleep apnea or dental implants…we know that once you visit Orsatti Dental’s expert staff, our offices and visit with our doctors you will see the Orsatti difference in everything we do.
Being a dentist in San Antonio
If you’ve followed our blogs for the past few months, we’ve talked about all of our services and the great people that work in our office. I love what we do. Not just because of the people that we meet, but because we have seen so much change in San Antonio. Sometimes change is hard, but it is also necessary for growth. When we started our dental practice over 30 years ago, we had no idea what that would mean for us, or our community. As the years have gone by, our practice and the city of San Antonio have grown beyond our wildest dreams. It’s funny to think about when we first opened our doors. Some of the communities in North and West San Antonio didn’t even exist. 281 was just a two lane highway. Our office on Huebner Road has undergone some decoration and redecoration. I mention all of this because as fast as things have changed in the last 30 years in San Antonio, the dental field has changed just as much if not more than our city. When I first became a dentist, the procedures that we practiced in those days seem a far cry from where we are today as a profession. The tools and procedures that are available now, and in our office astound me everyday. From the X-Rays we have to the molding machines that we use to create brand new dental implants for folks who would either not have a smile, or have to use adhesive on their gums for dentures that they would have to take in and out of their mouths every night. We have countless patients that come into our office everyday who have a problem with sleep apnea. Think about that for a second. Did you ever think that your DENTIST would be able to help you with sleep apnea? We we can. When I started practicing, that wasn’t something that was readily available. Now we have tools and procedures to treat sleep apnea for our patients.
With all the change that has happened here in this city and our profession, I am glad that one thing has stayed the same. It makes me extremely proud to work with and serve some of the best people I have ever met, right here in San Antonio. From our patients and friends that always come to support our events, to the best in class staff that we have working alongside us . We all have one common goal, to be happy and help others where we can. As I reflect and look back, I am proud of the dental practice we have been able to build here in San Antonio. And if I can brag a bit here too, I am glad that coming to Orsatti Dental means something more to people than just going to a regular dentist. We take great pride in the fact that we are able to provide a service to our community and take care of the people in that community. It is because of you, our colleagues, friends, neighbors and patients that we will always call San Antonio home. Go Spurs Go.
